What we do

We provide expert consultancy and implementations including enabling provision of managed services with unique experience in the following areas:

  • Integration, web services, database architecture and hosting (local & cloud, NHS, academic) often utilising Open Source Software such as BRISSKit which includes integrations of commonly used open source biomedical tools such as REDcap, i2b2-Transmart, CiviCRM, OpenSpecimen, PhenoTips - for managing patient recruits linked to questionnaires, samples, phenotyping, warehousing & enabling research analytics
  • Partnership with UK Cloud Health, the largest supplier of database hosting services to the Public Sector via the Government's G-Cloud Marketplace, offering NHS Information Governance Toolkit accredited secure storage for sensitive data
  • Multi disciplinary research expertise (Honorary Fellow, Uni of Leicester) including biomedical and environmental health informatics; physics, astrophysics & space (PhD, 20+ yrs to Senior Research Fellow); uniquely bridging life sciences, social sciences, arts & humanities
  • Research Data Management and Publishing- researcher, institutional, funder & publishing perspectives and requirements including pioneering expertise in research data peer review.
  • Business and multi stakeholder experience & partnering - unique ranging from end users to developers for CxO, academics, health professionals & Government
  • Schools & Trust Leadership & Governance including chairing OWLS Multi Academy Trust since 2015 (now 7 schools) and Chair of Governors 2007-19 at a large, outstanding Primary School. We were awarded and built New Lubbesthorpe Primary School for a new community and have now been awarded a 2nd new build project.

Unique network

The Director is the ELIXIR Europe (Inter Governmental Organisation) Compute and Tools Platform + European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) Coordinator in Cambridge since 2018. He led the development of the BRISSKit integrated open source biomedical research software platform since 2011 at the University of Leicester, endorsed in 2015 by the NHS England Code4Health Apperta Challenge; is an Senior Affiliate Associate for Research Consulting LtdMaverick Publishing Specialists Ltd; Associate Editor of Geoscience Data Journal (Wiley) and is Chair of Trustees since 2015 of the OWLS Primary Schools Trust which in this period grew from 2 to now 7 Primary Schools. He was previously Editor-in-Chief of Open Health Data Journal (Ubiquity); Chair of the Medilink East Midlands Digital Health Special Interest Group; President of the UK Chapter of the International Society for Digital Medicine and Chair of Governors of Little Hill Primary School (2006-2018).

Our commissions range from designing and implementing health informatics databases and software for e.g. the 100,000 Genomes NHS Transformation Programme to architecting multi partner accessible research survey databases for environmental health. Consultation and thought leadership includes original  research, interviews and authoring across a broad range of research topics for e.g. the UK Government's Open Research Data Task Force (2018), American Institute of Physics (2020), ASCO Information Analytics (2019) and F1000Research Publishing (2021). White Papers include Big Data from Sensors (2017), convergent science and academic literature search (2018).
